2016 has been a bizarre year which has seen a colossal amount of extremely talented and influential souls depart this world. Another shock was announced on Christmas day with the sad news of George Michael’s passing away. With the much loved Wham hit ‘Last Christmas’ playing on every radio station it was hard to accept reality. Everyone has a memory or connection to his music, which we will continue to appreciate for generations to come.
George was determined and successful in making his stamp on the industry, which started off with his childhood friend Andrew Ridgeley forming the fabulous duo Wham. A pool party is not complete without the summer sound of Club Tropicana.
George then went on to sell over 100 million records with record breaking tracks such as Careless Whisper, Father Figure, Freedom, Fastlove and Jesus to a child. Earlier this year George had been nominated for the songwriters hall of fame to recognise his epic songwriting and breathtaking performance ability. He was also filming a documentary which was due to air in 2017.
A generous and beautiful spirit who will be missed.
